2019 in Review: East CAN by the Numbers

In 2019, the East CAN community proudly helped over 75 animals and owners in need.  Twenty-one animals got forever homes and we helped 3 animals pass peacefully.

We are eternally grateful for each show of support you give to us throughout the year – donating, attending and even shopping!  Thanks to you last year –  donations to East CAN totaled just over $30,000.  Our events throughout the year (The Big PayBack, Chili Cook Off, Tomato Fest, and the Annual Yard Sale) grossed $5,800.  We received an additional $556 through your shopping via Amazon Smile.

As always, our largest expense was vet care, the total being $24,000.  In 2019, we provided veterinary care for 70 animals, ranging from routine vaccinations and spay/neuters to around the clock intensive care to save the Star-Warrior Pups from parvovirus.  Food and supplies totaled $2,000.  Unfortunately, unexpected long term boarding for two dogs raised our boarding costs to over $7,500. This was substantially more than previous years, causing us to end the year slightly in the red.

In 2020, we will continue to prioritize responsible and transparent usage of funds.  We remain a 100% volunteer-run operation.  Thank you for being a vital part of our East CAN family!

Why Do I Foster? by Megan Southern

The first freedom ride. The first bath where you wash away that life they knew before. The first time that puppy cuddles up to you knowing that you are not scary like the people they knew before. The first time they get to truly play and learn what toys are. The first walk where they glance back at you for reassurance that they are doing it right. The first of many meals that fatten them up and they learn to know now will keep coming. That first time that this puppy meets his people and you see the joy of a perfect pairing. Then knowing that because you got to experience all these amazing things it saved a life.  Why wouldn’t I foster?!

East CAN is so grateful to Megan, who has fostered more than 50 dogs for us!  Once she had two litters of puppies at the same time!
