Neighbors Showing Care and Compassion
East C.A.N. is committed to helping the East Nashville Community reduce the number of stray, abandonded and abused dogs and cats in our neighborhoods. Formed by residents concerned by the increasing number of needy animals on our streets, East C.A.N. assists neighbors who are willing to temporarily foster dogs and cats until new loving homes can be found.
Please read all about the lovable adoptables (below.) None of this would be possible without you who volunteer your time, your homes, your efforts in fostering and caring for animals with East CAN's assistance.
In addition to foster "parents" and forever homes, East C.A.N. is always looking for neighbors who are willing to contribute their skills and gifts to this local cause. Please visit How Can I Help? to find out about more ways to participate.
Interested in one of our furry friends? Download and complete our Adoption Application. Rather foster? We have an application for fostering, too.

Josie, a young golden pit mix, was rescued with 2 of her puppies when her former owner planned to dump them in Shelby Park. She is a healthy, playful, happy girl who enjoys playing catch and keep away. Josie is now trained to walk gently on leash, to obey all the basic commands, and to sit quietly by her food bowl until told she may eat. She is very affectionate, obeys well and would be good in a one or two dog family and/or a family with children 10 and older.

Maggie is a playful adult black lab mix. She knows all basic commands and shows great promise for someone interested in pursuing Agility classes! Maggie is house broken & knows how to use a doggy door too. She displays no destructive behavior. She gets along great with other dogs - no competition or aggression. Maggie is a skilled fence climber and is currently being trained on an electric fence that her foster has purchased and will GIVE to her lucky new owner! Please contact us if you’d like to meet Maggie!

Ethel and her family were about to be dumped on the side of the road when a good samaritan intervened. Now this fiesty little girl is looking for a loving forever home where she can put that tragedy far behind her. Ethel loves to play with dogs and kids alike and has lots of energy. She is almost completely housetrained and is crate trained to boot!

Casper is a beautiful white Boxer mix with a quirky cute under bite. He’s a lanky love who waggles his long tail and immediately wants to cuddle. He’s over a year old and is neutered with all shots and is very healthy. Casper is looking for an experienced dog owner and is great with kids and other dogs.

This Boxer boy is so handsome and incredibly sweet. Approx. 1 year old, he was hungry and skinny when he was found, but healthy as a horse now. He is currently being vetted. Please contact us if you would like to meet him.

Maria is a 15 lb beagle/chihuahua mix, mother to little Fala and Gittel. She was rescued over the holidays with her pups, and she has shown her loving, cuddly gratitude every day. She is currently getting vetted and would love to meet you!

Sadie a happy 2-3 yr old black and tan little girl with floppy ears. She loves to run and play fetch. She is smart, obedient, walks well on a leash, and easily adapts to new environments. Grampa is looking for his retirement home. He is an older, unneutered, outside dog, happy to be in the yard sleeping in the sun. He makes no noise. He is dog friendly, even when leashed. He recently visited Richland Animal Clinic, where the vet said that he has no health issues from his age that are unexpected. He is a little hard of hearing, and probably a little vision impaired. His broken teeth do not stop him from eating happily, and his arthritis doesn't stop him from chasing my other dog around the yard, and in fact seems to have improved a bit over the last week. He got his rabies vaccine and is free from intestinal parasites. Unfortunately, he tested heartworm positive, so he is starting a regimen of Heartgard, which the vet says has been anecdotally shown to slowly reverse the problem. He isn't showing symptoms of the heartworms at this time.He was patient during his long bath, was excellent during the car trip, a stellar patient at the vet's, and takes treats very delicately. He adores being scratched under the neck. Please contact Gramps' foster mom, Ruth, if you would like to meet this stately gentleman.
When Carl was rescued, the vet diagnosed him with sarcoptic mange-scabies, skin infections, tapeworms, hookworms, whipworms, roundworms, and conjunctivitis, and heartworms. Today,Carl looks & feels SO MUCH better. He has a heart of gold and when he wags his tail, his whole body moves. All of his medical issues have now been treated & he's strong enough to begin heartworm treatments. The generous couple who have funded his recovery will also pay for heartworm treatments, but Carl is ready to leave a clinic setting & settle into a foster or forever home where he can be spoiled rotten. If you're interested in knowing more about Carl for a foster or forever part of your family, please contact Jodie.
Rascal is the sweetest dog, great with other dogs, and loves all people. He's about 3 yrs old, house trained, doesn't get on furniture at all, and doesn't bark in the house. This little guy is 40 lbs of fence jumper, however, so keep an eye on him! If you'd like to meet Rascal, contact Cara.

Blackie is a 10 yr old male lab mix, about 70 lbs and doesn't prefer kids. Girly is about 9 yrs old and 35 lbs. Last but not least, Honey is the black and white spotted mix, shy and sweet, about 10 yrs old as well and 30 lbs. These dogs do not have to stay together.
Lefty is a 6-7 yr old neutered male cat. He is a beautiful long-haired tabby that gets along with kids and other pets. He's up to date on all his vetting. Please contact Natalie to meet Lefty.

These three dogs just lost their dad. His untimely death is a tragedy for his entire family - including his pets. Gladys is 2-3 years old, boxer/shephard/lab mix. Zuri is 13 years, a lab mix. Frank is an American bulldog puppy (housetrained.) All three dogs are people and dog social. Please contact Anna (615-593-4026) or the Maloneys (615-385-1612) for more information.

Louis, Bessie, and Billie are looking for a new home. Please contact Jessica for more information.
Believed to be a boxer mix, Ellie is very sweet, house broken, and spayed. She loves to play but also likes to sleep on a big bed or chew a bone. She lives with 3 other dogs and she gets along well with them. For introductions and more information please contact Kara at 972-3083.

Lucy is a cutie. She is learning to sit, and is getting better on the leash, except when she catches a scent of the deer. Lucy is also learning that there are a lot of rules about what she can and cannot chew. She is pretty good about housebreaking rules and is good about "going" outside. She is a pee'er so needs to go pee a few times a day. She is doing well with the cat and dog in the house. She always wants to cuddle. Lucy is at the mercy of her nose, so must have a fenced yard and a family situation. Her coat is not thick so she gets cold, she is definitely a house dog. Please contact patsijean@comcast.net if you would like to meet Lucy.
